20 Homes Destroyed as Long Lake Wildfires Rage Out of Control in Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia’s Department of Natural Resources has confirmed that 20 homes were destroyed on August 24 when the Long Lake wildfire complex rapidly doubled in size. The flames swept through the community of West Dalhousie, with properties lost along West Dalhousie Road, Thorne Road, and Morse Road. In addition to the homes, 11 outbuildings were also reported destroyed or damaged.
The wildfire complex remains out of control, currently spanning an estimated 8,234 hectares (~20,300 acres). Crews are working tirelessly to contain the blaze, with over 17 aircraft supporting around 170 personnel battling the fire on the ground.
The province continues to monitor the situation closely, urging residents to remain cautious as conditions remain volatile.
