7-day Tribal Youth Exchange Programme launched – 200 youth from 5 Naxal affected tribal districts of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand are participating in the programme

The 16th Tribal Youth Exchange Programme organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Chandigarh, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, was inaugurated in Chandigarh today. The programme will be held at Punjab Engineering College, Sector 12, till January 30. Prof. Rakesh Kumar Bhatia, Director, Punjab Engineering College, was the chief guest and Paramjit Singh, Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra Punjab, was the guest of honour. District Youth Officer Sanjana Vats presided over the programme.
Addressing the participants, Director Professor Rakesh Kumar Bhatia said that this programme of Government of India for tribal youth will bring a positive change in their lives. It is a matter of pride for all of us that a woman from the tribal society has reached the highest position in the country today. “Our morale should never be low due to lack of resources. He said that the tribal society has preserved a rich and proud culture in the country. We need to learn to love nature. Professor Bhatia said that the opportunities provided by the government to these youth are a great opportunity for them to connect with the culture of other parts of the country. Paramjit Singh, State Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra Punjab, said that the Nehru Yuva Kendra organizes such programs from time to time for the youth of different parts of the country so that the spirit of One Nation, Best Nation is strengthened among the youth. With such programs, we will also get an opportunity to know the culture and traditions of the tribal society and these youth will also be able to get acquainted with the culture of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
Giving details about the programme, District Youth Officer Sanjana Vats said that this year 24 programmes will be organized across the country through Nehru Yuva Kendras. As many as 4800 tribal youth from interior parts of 39 blocks of 12 Naxal-affected districts of five states will participate in the programme. In this 16th tribal youth exchange program organized in Chandigarh, there are 200 talented people from 5 districts affected by Naxalism, including West Singhbhum in Jharkhand, Gadchiroli in Maharashtra, Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh and Kanker, Mohalla Manpur Ambagarh outpost in Chhattisgarh, in which 100 young men and 100 young women are participating. He informed that in this 7-day long programme, awareness sessions on various topics will be organized for tribal youth. The topics will include problems of tribal areas and their solutions, water, forest land, schemes and opportunities of the government in various fields for tribal youth, patriotism and nation building, women empowerment. Apart from this, these youth will also be made to visit various educational, industrial and tourist places of Chandigarh.
The objectives of the programme are:
To raise the aspirations of the youth of the remote tribal areas of 12 selected districts of 5 states of the country and to provide them an opportunity to visit 24 different places of the country to understand the cultural ethos, language, lifestyle of the people, social, economic and cultural development. Through this process, we have to create awareness about the unity in diversity of our national life.
To make the tribal youth aware of technological and industrial advancement, skill development, education and employment opportunities and to make them aware of various developmental and welfare schemes.
To make the tribal youth aware of their rich traditional and cultural heritage and enable them to preserve it for posterity.
To help tribal youth develop emotional bonds with their peer groups in other parts of the country and enhance their self-esteem.
To provide opportunities to the participants to interact with constitutional authorities like Hon’ble President of India, Vice President, Governors and members of Council of Ministers, great achievers, sports personalities, film, TV stars, other VIPs, local communities, Panchayati Raj etc.
To develop the personality of tribal youth by creating awareness on the existing schemes of both State and Central Government, by enhancing their understanding of life skills and related training needs, fulfilling their legitimate career aspirations through employable skills. To provide necessary guidance and career counseling regarding the development of tribal youth.
