Chandrapur Block Faces Development Challenges Despite Recognition
Chandrapur Block, which has long awaited recognition, has faced persistent challenges in development and governance despite the efforts of government officials and local leaders. Since the block received recognition, several initiatives have been launched, but the implementation has been hindered by inefficiencies and lack of accountability.
Call for Leadership and Accountability
Panchayat Samiti chair person Koyeena and Kimbraka emphasized the need for proactive leadership to address the issues faced by the block. They stressed that all development initiatives under the Panchayat Committee must be given the highest priority. It was suggested that both verbal and written updates should be provided to the District Collector and the Chief Development Executive Officer (CDEO) of the district to ensure transparency and accountability.
Key Issues Highlighted
Absence of Key Officials:
Bharamar Kisan, the Junior Engineer , has reportedly not spent a single day in the Chandrapur Samiti since his posting. Similarly, the current CDEO Sri Akshaya Kumar Khemundu has made only two or three visits to the block this month after notifying the DRDA in writing.
Poor Internet Connectivity:
Internet services in Chandrapur Sadar remain non-functional, hampering governance and development work. This is in stark contrast to the surrounding panchayats where internet services, including Doordarshan connectivity, are operational.
Infrastructure Gaps:
Even after decades of independence, basic infrastructure remains underdeveloped. For instance, residents of the Chandrapur area still have to travel 16 kilometers to Hanamantapur for Banking work due to the lack of a functional Rashtriya Bank no ATM facilities.
Har Ghar Bijli Scheme Neglected:
The government’s flagship “Har Ghar Bijli” scheme remains unimplemented in Chandrapur Block. In Khajuri Pada village, under the Chandrapur Gram Panchayat, electricity is yet to reach residents despite promises made since independence.Delayed Tender Processes Over the past two years, tenders for electricity ⚡️ projects have been approved, but departmental authorities have failed to respond with appropriate rates, delaying execution.
Community Demands Action
On February 10, 2025, in the presence of the District Collector, villagers gathered to voice their concerns once again. During a hearing at the Chandrapur Panchayat Samiti office, they submitted written complaints reiterating their longstanding grievances.
Chairman Shri Koyeena Kimbraka highlighted the need for immediate action, stating, “The villagers of Chandrapur have been waiting for basic facilities for far too long. It is time for the government to address these issues with urgency and ensure that development reaches every corner of the block.”
The community hopes that their persistent efforts will finally lead to tangible results and that the government will prioritize the long-overdue development of Chandrapur Block.
