Keeping in mind the increasing cases of cyber financial fraud in the era of social media, Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh appealed to the district residents and said that they can contact the helpline number 1930 run by the Union Home Ministry to immediately report such cases.
Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh said that due to the increasing craze of online shopping among people in the last few years, people often fall prey to advertisements of bumper discounts, lotteries or prizes on social media. In such a situation, first ensure whether the website being used is safe or not. She said that if possible, try to choose the option of cash on delivery while ordering goods from online sites so that your bank and card details do not fall into the hands of cyber criminals.
The Deputy Commissioner said that if for any reason any kind of cyber fraud happens with you, then first of all dial the helpline number 1930 and register your complaint on the cyber crime reporting portal. He appealed to the youth of the district to be cautious of cyber crimes and also make their family members aware. He said that earlier 155260 helpline facility was provided for information about cyber fraud, but now the Union Home Ministry has issued helpline number 1930 in place of the above number.
Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh said that to report a crime like cyber fraud, going to the police station and getting an FIR registered in the traditional way and getting it investigated is a long process. In such a situation, the helpline option is the best medium for immediate action. She said that the sooner such cases are reported, the better so that the victim can be provided immediate assistance to prevent further transactions. She said that the victim can also register his complaint on the cyber crime website cybercrime.gov.in.
