Chief Minister flags off 25 high visibility patrolling motorcycles for Shimla and Police District Nurpur

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu flagged off 25 high visibility patrolling motorcycles for Shimla and Police District Nurpur from Chaura Maidan Shimla today. The vehicles would ensure smooth traffic movements in these areas.

The Chief Minister said that the government has taken up various steps to ensure road safety in the state. Of these 25 patrolling motorcycles costing Rs. 3.72 crore, Shimla would be given 19 and Police District Nurpur would get six for improving traffic management and ease in traffic movements. Apart from these vehicles, District Shimla has been given 30 handheld speed guns, 10 body-worn cameras, 18 Alco sensors, 30-speed cameras, 80-speed breakers, 225 reflective jackets, 115 rechargeable batons, 200 traffic cones, 70 interlocking plastic barricades and 30 searchlights.

The Chief Minister said that the government was spending 27 crores on the purchase of various types of equipment to ensure swift emergency response during any road accident or for traffic management, surveillance etc. The equipment includes 47 four-wheelers for Shimla, Kangra and Mandi districts and 27 two-wheelers for Kangra and Mandi districts. Separately, 14 interceptor vehicles and wrecker vehicles, hydraulic equipment, emergency bags etc were being purchased. The purchase of all of this equipment would be completed before March, 2025 and would be supplied to police stations of Shimla, Kangra and Mandi Districts.

The Chief Minister said that an investment of about Rs 90 crore was being made to purchase various patrolling, monitoring, rescue and emergency response equipment for the police. An investment of about Rs 61.57 crore is also being made to set up an integrated road safety enforcement system in Shimla. The system will be connected to 532 cameras equipped with AI facility at 214 identified locations on various roads in Shimla, Kangra, Mandi districts, said the Chief Minister.

He said that a long-term action plan has been prepared for the Public Works Department for improving road engineering, patrolling for police, training has been provided to police and Public Works Department engineers.

On behalf of Gym Khana Club Mandi, President Vikas Kapoor and Secretary Achal Kapoor presented a cheque of Rs. 2.01 Lakh to the Chief Minister towards the Chief Minister Relief Fund.

Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Ram Kumar Chaudhary, MLA Harish Janartha, Vice Chairman Forest Development Corporation Kehar Singh Khachi, Director General of Police Dr. Atul Verma, ADGP Abhishek Trivedi, Director Information and Public Relations Rajiv Kumar, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Shimla Bhupender Attri, Director (Projects) Himachal Pradesh Road and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited Pawan Kumar Sharma and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
