The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, the first major legislation set to be introduced by the Modi 3.0 government, has stirred a hornet’s nest among Muslim organisations and the opposition. The bill, which aims to streamline the manner of registration of waqf properties through a central portal, was tabled by the government in Parliament on Thursday.
The bill proposes renaming the Waqf Act, 1995, as the Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act.
