he alliance of the National Conference (NC) and Congress has won the Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls, which were the first assembly elections since 2014, first as a Union Territory and first after the removal of Article 370 which gave the erstwhile state special status. And in Haryana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has created history by retaining the state for the record consecutive third term. The BJP has won 48 seats while the Congress has secured 37. Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the people of Haryana “for giving a clear majority to the Bharatiya Janata Party once again”.
In J&K’s 90 seats, the NC and Congress have won in 49, the BJP in 29 and the PDP in three. AAP’s Mehraj Malik has handed the Arvind Kejriwal-led party its first-ever electoral win in Jammu and Kashmir. PM Modi said he was “proud” of the BJP’s performance in the union territory.

“Ultimately, in a democracy, what matters is what the people want. In J&K, as the BJP claims that there is a huge welcome for them after the events in the last 3-4 years, that is clearly not true. We’ve seen that there is an overwhelming reaffirmation of support for the NC-Congress alliance. We will form a stable and responsible government. The demand for statehood will intensify. As far as Haryana is concerned, it came as a surprise. For years, we have been hearing about how unhappy the people of the state are with the BJP rule and how eagerly they were waiting for our return. We have to analyse what went wrong and what didn’t go as we had hoped,” said Shashi Tharoor.

Haryana Result: Haryana result proves people’s faith in PM Modi, says Himanta Sarma
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the BJP was able to retain power in Haryana because of people’s faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “guarantees”.
On the BJP emerging as the second largest party in Jammu and Kashmir, he said the result was an endorsement of the efforts to defeat “anti-national forces” and ensure peace and progress.
“Under the leadership of respected @narendramodi ji, @BJP4Haryana has succeeded in getting the blessings of the people for the third time,” Mr Sarma posted on X.
