HPNLU’s Centre for Studies Related to Persons with Disabilities organizes Sensitization Event for Govt. School, Banuti on Disability Awareness

The Centre for Studies Related to Persons with Disabilities (C.S.D.) of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the aegis of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice Chancellor, organized a series of engaging activities aimed at raising awareness about the challenges faced by students with disabilities.

During the visit to Government High School Banuti, a disability camp was organized which featured two groups of children. In one group, children took turns writing a paragraph based on dictation from a peer. This exercise effectively highlighted the difficulties that students with disabilities encounter during exams, underscoring the necessity of additional support tools for their academic success. The other group activity involved blindfolding students to simulate the daily challenges faced by visually impaired individuals. These hands-on activities fostered a deeper understanding among participants, who provided positive feedback, reflecting their engagement and learning throughout the session.

Later at Government Senior Secondary Sschool, Ghanatti another disability awareness camp was held. The camp began with an introduction to various disabilities and was met with enthusiastic participation from students. The discussions explored impactful media, including the screening of the movie ‘Taare Zameen Par’, and examined government initiatives aimed at assisting individuals with disabilities. Key topics included the importance of legal frameworks in enhancing the lives of disabled individuals and the role of government reservations in supporting their rights.

Participants were also equipped with essential legal information on disability rights and reservations, fostering a sense of responsibility as informed citizens. The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session led by Dr. Rohit Sharma, Faculty member, CSD, HPNLU, which further enhanced the students’ understanding of these critical issues. The day ended with a vote of thanks delivered by the school’s sports in-charge, encapsulating the success of the event. Dr. Ruchi Raj Thakur, member, CSD, HPNLU were also present at the event.
