In sync with the vision of Hon’ble Governor Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Sh Gulab Chand Kataria and as a precursor to the upcoming gala event on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in February2025, a Joint Committee Meeting on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was held in Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-42, Chandigarh, today to deliberate upon effective drug de addiction awareness in the city HEIs.
The meeting held under the chairmanship of Shri Rubinderjit Singh Brar, Director Higher Education, UT Chandigarh Administration, was attended by Principals of Government Colleges, Government Aided Private Colleges and Technical Colleges, Nodal Officers of VADA Club, NSS Programme Officers and students from colleges of the city.
Principal Prof. Binu Dogra extended a formal welcome to everyone while Dr. Mahender Singh, Nodal officer ,NMBA, Chandigarh cum Joint Director, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Chandigarh, elaborated on the mission, vision and objectives of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan launched on 15th August 2020. It was a brainstorming session where the various officials reflected on the strategies of intervention and prevention that may be introduced to make the College campuses drug-free.
The Director Higher Education, Shri Brar gave various suggestions and strategies on combating the increasing menace of drug abuse among students and also expressed his commitment to continue the fight against substance abuse in the educational community in and round Chandigarh. He further elaborated on the measures to spread awareness, educate the public, and foster collaboration among various sections of society to create a drug-free society.
The Principals, Directors and other officials from city colleges and Education Department made a number of vital suggestions which include personal interaction with students, holding workshops, establishing well – being cell, conducting seminars, morning assembly, and creation of mentor-students groups. Various other suggestions made included introduction of more skill based activities, educational campaigns, and community-based interventions to engage the youth in productive activities. The teaching faculty was united in their resolve to build a drug-free society for students .
The program concluded with a commitment by all attendees to work collaboratively in eradicating drug abuse from society, ensuring a healthier and brighter future for the coming generations.
