Respected Amit Shah Sir,
We Chandigarh Yuva Dal want to highlight the major issue of Chandigarh i.e. old age and widow pension issue. Chandigarh Administration is giving pension of Rs.1000 to old age and widow persons of Chandigarh.
The UT Administration had last increased the pension from Rs.500 to Rs.1000 in February 2016.
Since then the pension has not been increased even once. During this period, almost all the states including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh have increased the pension amount several times. The capital of two states and the Union Territory has the lowest pension in the whole of North India, which is only Rs.1,000, while the pension in the neighboring state Haryana is almost three times more than this. In this era of inflation, the pension of Rs.1000 is just a name. In old age, the elderly, disabled and helpless widows are facing neglect from their own people. Pension has been increased in neighboring states, but in Chandigarh, people are suffering the brunt of being a Union Territory. About 3-4 years ago, a proposal was sent by the Social Welfare Committee constituted by the UT Administrator to increase the pension from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000. The administration also sent it to the Union Home Ministry for approval, but till date the elderly are waiting for the increase in pension. We, Chandigarh Yuva Dal, request you to approve this proposal when you come to Chandigarh on Sunday so that many people of the city can benefit from it. This will be a big gift for the people of Chandigarh from your government.
