Bus Plunges into Gorge Near Shillai: Three Dead, Over Two Dozen Injured in Tragic Border-Area Crash

Rewritten News (English):

A heartbreaking road accident occurred in the border area of Shillai, sending shockwaves across the region. A Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus plunged into a deep gorge, resulting in the instant death of three passengers, while more than two dozen others were injured.

According to initial reports, the accident took place on Tuesday morning around 9:30 am when an HRTC bus from the Nerwa depot met with a mishap in the Shudoi Khadd near Kwanu, a remote border area of Shillai. At the time of the accident, the bus was carrying around 35 passengers.

The bus was en route from Chaupal to Paonta Sahib, travelling via Kwanu and Vikasnagar, when the tragedy struck. Officials said that while giving way to another vehicle on a narrow hill road, a roadside retaining wall suddenly collapsed. This caused the driver to lose control, and the bus skidded off the road before plunging into a deep ravine.

Soon after the incident, residents from Kwanu and three nearby villages rushed to the spot and immediately launched rescue and relief operations. Displaying remarkable courage and presence of mind, local villagers helped pull injured passengers out of the gorge and arranged for their swift transportation to nearby hospitals.

Authorities have confirmed that one man and two women died on the spot, while several others sustained serious injuries. The injured passengers have been admitted to nearby healthcare facilities, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Teams from the local administration and police reached the accident site promptly and are continuing rescue and investigation efforts. Relief operations were ongoing at the time of the last report, as officials worked to ensure all passengers were accounted for and provided medical care.

The tragic accident has once again highlighted the dangers of narrow and fragile mountain roads, especially in border and hilly regions, raising concerns over road safety and infrastructure stability.
