The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which emerged with the objective of achieving statehood for Telangana, is poised to celebrate its 25th anniversary on April 27 of this year. In light of this milestone, the party is gearing up to organize a series of celebrations throughout the year. At the same time, the BRS is preparing to address public issues while also strengthening its organizational structure ahead of the upcoming elections. The primary goal is to return to power in the state, and the party is intensifying its efforts with new strategies.

As part of this initiative, the BRS is focusing on work distribution among its key leaders to ensure that they can connect with people from all walks of life. The leadership has expressed a desire to reconnect with various forces that stood together during the formative years of the movement. The party aims to remind citizens of the essence of Telangana and seeks to promote its ideology to draw in new generations.

Recent Developments

During a recent extensive meeting of the BRS held on the 19th of this month, party leader and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) signaled these intentions to the key leaders. He has decided to allocate significant responsibilities among top leaders to further strengthen the party at the grassroots level and coordinate activities across all hierarchies. K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), currently serving as the party’s working president, has been tasked with addressing public issues through action-oriented programs, and he will oversee the implementation of these initiatives.

KTR has already participated in farmer protest rallies across six assembly constituencies, and he is expected to lead future agitations and protest activities highlighting the government’s failures.

Leadership Assignments

KCR has officially announced that the organizational responsibilities of the party will be entrusted to Harish Rao, the Siddipet MLA and former minister. Harish will oversee the membership registration drive commencing on April 10, the formation of committees at various levels – from village to district and state – as well as the party’s training programs. Reports suggest that he will also handle the coordination of the celebrations for the 25th anniversary.

Meanwhile, MLC Kavitha will focus on strengthening the party’s affiliate organizations, concentrating on issues related to backward classes (BC), scheduled castes (SC), scheduled tribes (ST), and women. Kavitha is actively conducting meetings and conferences on topics such as women’s reservations, caste enumeration, and 42% reservations for BCs.

Unity and Outreach

Within the party, there is a growing consensus on the need to unify the forces that collaborated during the movement and to reach out to youth. To this end, committees will be established in the anniversary celebrations commencing from April 27, which will involve poets, artists, and writers who participated actively in civil society movements during the Telangana struggle. This aims to instill a sense of responsibility toward preserving the identity of Telangana while introducing new generations to the state’s background and the movement for statehood.

Recognizing Achievements

The BRS also plans to highlight its contributions to the Telangana statehood movement as well as its accomplishments during ten years of governance in power. The party intends to organize discussions, meetings, and rallies targeting the youth, who have evolved from babies at the party’s inception to influential figures in the state’s political landscape today.

In terms of organizational restructuring, KCR is considering forming a core group composed of approximately 25 to 30 senior leaders to deliberate and strategize the party’s future course of action. This group will include leaders who have been active since the movement as well as those who joined the party at various points in its history. Meetings with key party workers will be scheduled at KCR’s residence in Erravalli, and plans are in place to convene mini sessions after completing necessary facilities like dining areas and parking spaces in the agricultural sector.
