Chiranjeevi Praises New Telugu Book on Hitchcock
The world of cinema has been profoundly influenced by the cinematic genius of Alfred Hitchcock, a master filmmaker whose works have inspired countless directors and writers of suspense thrillers. To honor the 125th birth anniversary of this legendary figure, as well as the centenary of his first film release, a significant contribution to film literature has been made: a book titled Master Of Suspense Hitchcock.
This book is the brainchild of senior journalist and film writer Pulagam Chinnarayana, in collaboration with Ravi Pad, an Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer. The first copy of the book was launched on December 18 and within just five days, all copies were sold out, prompting the authors to release a second edition filled with new content.
Chiranjeevi’s Praise for the Book
Megastar Chiranjeevi, during the launch of the second edition of the book, commended the initiative of bringing such literature to Telugu readers, stating, “It is commendable to have a book like this in Telugu.” He shared how he first encountered Hitchcock’s films during his college days and expressed his intention to read the book thoroughly over the next ten to fifteen days whenever he found free time. Chiranjeevi emphasized the significance of documenting the legacy of a towering figure in world cinema in the Telugu language and urged Pulagam Chinnarayana and Ravi Pad to continue creating similar works.
Forewords and Contributions
Noteworthy contributions to the book include a foreword by the acclaimed novelist Malladi Venkata Krishna Murthy, who not only praised the book but also released a podcast discussing its merits, marking this as his first time endorsing a book. Additionally, the renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma also penned a foreword for the publication.
Inside Master Of Suspense Hitchcock, readers will find a treasure trove of insight and analysis with a total of 62 essays contributed by 45 directors, seven writers, and ten journalists. This collaborative effort showcases the impact and importance of Hitchcock’s filmmaking legacy.

The authors, Pulagam Chinnarayana and Ravi Pad, received accolades for their work at the recent Hyderabad Literature Festival (HLF), where the celebrated Bollywood actor and director Amol Palekar praised their efforts in bringing Hitchcock’s cinematic journey to the forefront of Telugu literature.
This literary endeavor not only celebrates the legacy of Alfred Hitchcock but also highlights the rich tradition of filmmaking and storytelling within the Telugu cultural context, inspiring future generations to appreciate and explore the depths of cinema.
