Citizen Committee Raises Concerns Over Project Irregularities
Jaipur, February 19 – The Jaipur Citizen Committee has raised serious concerns regarding alleged irregularities in the construction of a dam by Sravani Energy. During a press conference, the committee highlighted potential violations of environmental regulations and the unauthorized use of forest land.
In pursuit of accountability, the committee met with the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) and submitted documents and evidence urging an official investigation. They contend that the Andhra-based company may incur financial losses due to the utilization of Odisha’s water, land, and forests. Meanwhile, Odisha authorities continue with dam construction, reportedly increasing its height from the approved 4 meters to 12 meters without obtaining the necessary environmental clearances.
Social activist Damj Patra and other committee members have raised concerns over deforestation occurring without the requisite land diversion approvals. Following media reports on these irregularities and the committee’s formal complaint, the government has initiated an inquiry into the matter.
The Department of Forest and Water Conservation has confirmed that it will review all aspects of the project, including dam construction, canal work, and a proposed tourism site. Mr. Das, a representative of the committee, has questioned the project’s feasibility, particularly the management of water flow given the significant height increase beyond the approved specifications.
Additionally, the committee has voiced concerns over the diversion of water from the Shravan Energy project, demanding transparency regarding whether proper approvals have been obtained for these modifications. They have called for an immediate halt to construction, citing violations of government policies and environmental regulations.
During the committee meeting, attended by Chairman Man Basant Patra, Advisor Suresh Dash, and other members, the demand for urgent government intervention was reaffirmed. The investigation into the project’s compliance with legal and environmental regulations remains ongoing.
