CM hands over 5000 Chilgoza seedlings to Bhutan Government
A delegation of the Kingdom of Bhutan led by its Deputy Chief of Mission, Royal Bhutanese Embassy, Tashi Peldon and Minister Counselor, Royal Bhutanese Embassy, Chimi Wangmo called on Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu here today and discussed various mutual relations, including agreement of friendship.
The Chief Minister said that relations between India and Bhutan have always remained cordial. He said that an agreement of friendship was signed in 1949 between both the countries, which was renewed in 2007. He said that it was a matter of happiness that Himachal Pradesh was strengthening these ties by handing over 5,000 Chilgoza seedlings to the Department of Forests and Park Services, Royal Government of Bhutan, as a token of friendship from the people of Himachal Pradesh. He said that 50 kilogram seeds collected by Self Help Groups under the JICA project would also be provided to Bhutan in October.
Sh. Sukhu said that Chilgoza plants were found in district Kinnaur and in Pangi and Bharmour areas of Chamba district of the State. He said Chilgoza seeds play a vital role in the livelihood of people of Kinnaur district and get remunerative prices of produce in the market. He said that seeds of this plant have medicinal properties and are full of antioxidant values. He also offered technical support to the Bhutan government for the planting of Chilgoza saplings.
Tashi Peldon thanked the Chief Minister for providing Chilgoza seedlings to Bhutan Government and said that such gesture go a long way in strengthening the bilateral ties.
Additional Chief Secretary K.K. Pant, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Sanjay Sood were also present on the occasion.
