Concerns Mount Over BGBO Preparations in Bissamcuttack Amid Hasty Execution

Amid much fanfare surrounding the upcoming launch of the Bikasit Gram Bikasit Odisha (BGBO) initiative, doubts are surfacing over the preparedness and viability of the ambitious project. The recent visit by DM Rayagada to oversee arrangements in Bissamcuttack has raised eyebrows, with critics accusing the administration of prioritizing optics over substance.
While the government touts the BGBO initiative as a transformative rural development plan, local voices have expressed concerns over rushed planning and inadequate groundwork. The Collector’s visit, intended to ensure seamless execution, has drawn criticism for focusing primarily on event logistics rather than addressing deeper issues plaguing the region, such as inadequate healthcare, education, and employment opportunities.
Several community leaders and residents have questioned the sustainability of the promises made under BGBO. “This is not the first time we have heard grand announcements. We are yet to see tangible outcomes from similar initiatives in the past,” said a local activist, emphasizing the gap between policy announcements and real change on the ground.
Moreover, the virtual inauguration by the Chief Minister has sparked skepticism. “While virtual events look good on paper, the reality is that many villages still lack proper internet connectivity. How will the rural populace even witness this inauguration, let alone benefit from the program?” a local resident remarked.
The focus on making the event “historic” has also led to allegations of misallocated resources, with funds reportedly being spent on temporary arrangements instead of addressing pressing infrastructure gaps in the area. Critics argue that the government’s approach appears more performative than action-oriented.
As the event day approaches, questions remain about whether BGBO will truly uplift rural Odisha or merely serve as another addition to the state’s long list of unrealized promises.
