Rayagada, 26 March 2025: Hundreds of displaced families in Kansariguda staged a protest against Hindalco, alleging that the company failed to fulfill its promises made 28 years ago. The protesters, who had sacrificed their land for the refinery project, demanded immediate action on their long-pending demands, including jobs, compensation, and proper rehabilitation.
Despite assurances, 949 families were affected, with 149 being 100% displaced, yet they remain without adequate shelter or employment. “We were promised a better future, but all we have received are broken promises,” said a protester. The aggrieved community expressed frustration over Hindalco’s prolonged inaction, warning that their patience had worn thin.
Hindalco’s CEO, Mazhar Beig, was present at the protest site, attempting to pacify the demonstrators. However, the community remains skeptical about whether the company will finally honor its commitments or continue delaying action. The protest underscores the persistent grievances of the displaced families.
