Former CDC Official Blasts Agency: “Ideology Has Taken Over”
Demetre Daskalakis, former director of the CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, resigned this week, citing deep concerns about the agency’s current direction.
In a candid statement, Daskalakis accused the CDC under Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. of pursuing policies that, in his view, “do not reflect scientific reality and are designed to hurt rather than to improve the public’s health.”
His resignation marks a rare public rebuke from a senior official and has reignited discussions about the influence of ideology in shaping federal health policy. Experts and policymakers are now scrutinizing whether the agency’s actions are aligned with established science or political priorities, raising questions about the future of public health guidance in the United States.
