Bhubaneswar, 5th Feb 2025; The community health service units of the capital city add geriatric health service. All Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHCs)in the jurisdiction Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC)have been added with such facility from this month. The health units as designed under National Health Mission are the community level health care units to address basic or primary services in urban localities.
Now the Geriatric Day will be organized at all UPHCs on the 1st Saturday of every Month where it targets about 15 % of out patient door registration. Out of total registration, an average of 15% and more senior citizens are coming to these health facilities and a special day to guide them at UPHC level is an added advantage in the urban health system.
To Provide Curative, Preventive and Promote Health services to the Geriatric population it has been planned to observe Geriatric day at UPHCs by mobilizing available services and organizing services as a complete package. The service aims at promoting healthy aging, raise awareness on geriatric and palliative care and importance of caregivers. The services under the facility encompass health assessment & various screening services, diagnostic services, counselling, referral and information promotion on elderly welfare schemes. Every first Saturday will treat elderly patients with a special counter so that the geriatric issues can be addressed with dignity and patents won’t make queue with other patients. “This will be a good practice and BMC will inform its citizens about the special service at community level”, said Hon’ble Mayor Smt. Sulochana Das while informed about the scheme by the City Programme Manager.
On the other hand, the well-known BMC Hospital established in 1946; at old town has got ultrasound clinic on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8am to 12 pm for registered patients. Likewise, orthopedic clinic on Monday and Thursday, Nephrology on Tuesday- 9am to 2 pm, cardiology on Wednesday- 9am to 2 pm, Neurology on Thursday- 9am to 2 pm and daily Anti Rabies clinic facilities are the new services being provided here.
Primary health care is the basic service and citizens have every right for such services. Better facilities will enhance healthy lifestyle of the urban communities and we are hopeful that the facilities will benefit the urban communities; said Commissioner Sri Rajesh Prabhakar Patil.
