Government prioritizes early functionalization of medical colleges in Talcher and Phulbani
Bhubaneswar Dt. 13.02.2025: -(Biswaranjan Mishra news)-The Government of Odisha is taking decisive steps toward the early operationalization of two crucial medical colleges – Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College & Hospital in Talcher, Angul, and the Government Medical College & Hospital in Phulbani, Kandhamal. The functionalization of these institutions is expected to significantly improve medical services and provide long-awaited healthcare benefits to the people of the state.
In a key meeting held today via virtual mode, Aswathy S., Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Health & Family Welfare Department, chaired an important discussion to review the progress and address the ongoing requirements for these institutions. The meeting focused on key areas such as ensuring the readiness of medical buildings and equipment, and identifying and addressing any gaps in the process. The goal is to open these medical colleges to patients as soon as possible.
To expedite the process, District Collectors and relevant officers from both districts have been instructed to hold regular weekly meetings to fast-track all pending actions. This collaborative approach underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the swift functionalization of these institutions.
The state government is dedicated to providing top-tier medical education and healthcare services to the people of Odisha, with a special focus on underserved areas. By accelerating the process of opening these two medical colleges, the government is reinforcing its commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality medical care across the state.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Dr. Poma Tudu, Managing Director of OSMCL; Abdaal M. Akhtar, Angul Collector; Amrit Ruturaj, Kandhamal Collector; Dr. Bijay Kumar Mohapatra, Director of Health Services; Dr. Santosh Mishra, Director of Medical Education & Training; Dr. Usharani Sahoo, Additional Secretary; Prof. Dr. Kirtirekha Mohapatra, Dean and Principal of Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College; Prof. Dr. Debaprasad Mohanty, Dean of Government Medical College & Hospital in Phulbani; along with senior officials from both districts, including CDM and PHOs, and Superintendent Engineers.
