Who Won in Our Tweets? BJP Challenges DMK
Chennai: The ongoing social media battle between the BJP and DMK in Tamil Nadu shows no signs of abating anytime soon. Their social media war has escalated to a level where it can be described as ‘you say, I say.’ The primary catalyst for this escalation has been the DMK’s hashtag “Get Out Modi,” which has taken social media by storm. Over the past few days, there has been a verbal tussle between the central government and the Tamil Nadu state government.
The DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) has been vocally opposing the implementation of the Hindi language, which has stirred up tensions between the two political factions. As part of this ongoing social media war, the DMK’s IT wing has cleverly coined the hashtag “Get Out Modi,” provoking sharp reactions from BJP leaders.
In response, the Tamil Nadu BJP unit launched a counter-hashtag “Get Out Stalin.” BJP Tamil Nadu chief K. Annamalai addressed the ongoing exchanges, challenging the DMK with a strong rebuttal by questioning which of the two hashtags garnered more public visibility. He stated, “Let’s see who wins this Twitter battle.” According to Annamalai, the DMK released the hashtag “Get Out Modi” late at night, while his team managed to get “Get Out Stalin” trending by 6 AM the following day.
Annamalai further urged both factions to utilize all available resources to determine which of their tweets reached a broader audience. He issued a direct challenge to the DMK, asking, “Let’s see whose tweets resonate with the public more.” His rhetoric included pointed criticisms, listing grievances such as high-handedness from a single family, a cabinet tainted by corruption allegations, and a neglect of law and order, along with economic issues including mounting debt.
In his social media remarks, Annamalai highlighted the failures of the DMK government across multiple sectors, predominantly emphasizing the lack of safety measures for children. He remarked, “The DMK government has entirely failed in ensuring child safety.” The standoff seems to intensify as central ministers have been countering Chief Minister Stalin’s claims, ultimately shaping an intriguing narrative of blame and counter-blame in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
As this political drama unfolds, it remains to be seen how the public reacts and which party claims victory in this digital arena.
