Controversial Remarks by Minister on Indira Gandhi Spark Outrage

Jaipur: In a significant political turmoil in the Rajasthan Assembly, Minister Avinash Gehlot’s remarks concerning former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi have created a storm of controversy. Speaking during the budget session on Friday, Gehlot implied that while the current government is implementing the ‘Luckpati Didi’ scheme for women, the previous government operated schemes under the name of their “Dadi” (grandmother), a reference to Indira Gandhi.

Gehlot’s statement has not only been deemed controversial but has also raised the ire of Congress MLAs, who demanded that these comments be expunged from the Assembly records. However, Speaker Vasudev Devnani rejected their request, leading to a disruption by Congress MLAs aimed at obstructing the proceedings of the Assembly.

As the Congress members continued their protests, the situation escalated to a point where Speaker Devnani decided to suspend six Congress MLAs for the entire session, effectively clearing the way for the assembly to continue its proceedings without their presence.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for behaving in the Rajasthan Assembly similar to their conduct in the Parliament, calling their tactics into question and labeling them as undemocratic.

This incident highlights ongoing tensions within the Rajasthan political landscape and raises questions regarding the decorum and respect afforded to notable historical figures in Indian politics.
