Operation Healthy City: Bhubaneswar’s UMSU Takes a Multi-Pronged Approach to Disease Prevention

In Bhubaneswar, the Urban Metropolitan Surveillance Unit (UMSU) , BMC have swung into action. Under the supervision of BMC Commissioner Shri Chanchal Rana, Additional Commissioner Kailash Chandra Das, and Additional Public Health Director as well as UMSU Nodal Officer Dr. Pramila Baral, the department has been carrying out continuous surveillance across BMC areas.
From households to schools, colleges, and government institutions, surveys are being conducted along with daily awareness programmes. To prevent waterborne diseases, water samples are being collected from different locations, tested in laboratories, and appropriate measures are being advised and implemented to resolve the problems. Additionally, mosquito breeding sites near households are being identified and destroyed.
Today, at Nalini Devi B.Ed. and M.Ed. College, the Health Department created awareness on waterborne diseases, vector-borne diseases, adulterated food monitoring and elimination, dog bites, snake bites, obesity, cancer, diabetes, and also trained students on water testing methods.
Every day, this department continues its activities with the joint support of the BMC Health Office, ADUPHO team, filaria inspectors, supervisors, and dengue workers.
