‘Why Was the Consideration for Support Price Not Made Earlier?’
Visakhapatnam: Minister Botcha Satyanarayana of the YSR Congress Party has raised pointed questions regarding the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s delayed consideration of a support price for chili farmers. He expressed disbelief as to why the Chief Minister did not take action two months ago, especially for a sector that is crucial to the livelihoods of many in the region.
Botcha emphasized that the real concern for the chili farmers came to light only after YSR Congress Party President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy visited the farmers personally. “What are we to think when there was no response from you until Jagan came to meet the chili farmers? This raises serious questions about the government’s commitment to the agricultural community,” Botcha questioned.
He further expressed skepticism about the Chief Minister’s recent talks, pointing out the inconsistency of stating that discussions were being held regarding the farmers in New Delhi while the central minister was not present. “Is it really credible to claim you were discussing their needs during the absence of the Agricultural Minister?” he asked.
Botcha also challenged the idea that Jagan’s visit to the chili yard was somehow illegal, noting the absurdity of such a claim, particularly in comparison to the lavish musical nights in Vijayawada that receive governmental sanction. “If visiting the chili yard is considered illegal, then how can such extravagant events be seen as legal?” he reiterated.
In a broader context, he called for transparency concerning the land scams that have plagued Visakhapatnam and insisted that the government must disclose the investigation reports concerning those issues rather than merely hurling accusations.
Further complicating the situation, he questioned the rationale behind providing Z-category security to a former Chief Minister, which even the Governor expressed surprise at. In a direct rebuke, Botcha aimed his remarks at the Chief Minister, pointing out, “If Jagan’s security concerns are irrelevant, then how can you deem his visitation to the chili yard as illegal?”
