Governor Kataria Conducts Surprise Inspections Across Chandigarh, Issues Firm Directions on Cleanliness, Healthcare & Public Welfare
Chandigarh, January 31:
Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, today undertook a series of surprise visits across the city to review healthcare facilities, sanitation arrangements, and public welfare infrastructure.
The Administrator visited Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandir (UAAM) Health Centres at Sector 25, Dadumajra, EWS Maloya, and Raipur Kalan, besides inspecting the Dumping Ground at Dadumajra. Expressing concern over sanitation and medical services, he directed the concerned officers of the UT Administration to ensure proper treatment facilities, regular cleanliness, and availability of essential services at all health centres, particularly those catering to economically weaker sections.
During his inspection of the Dadumajra Dumping Ground, Shri Kataria issued clear instructions to expedite clearance of the site and strictly ensure that no fresh waste is dumped there. He emphasized adopting scientific waste management practices, timely segregation, and strengthening monitoring mechanisms to safeguard public health and the environment.
Earlier, the Administrator visited the Dr. Harshvardhan Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital, Sector 25, where he interacted with doctors and directed the Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, and the medical staff to focus not only on treatment but also on preventive healthcare through sustained awareness drives at the grassroots level.
Later, Shri Kataria inspected the Gaushala in Makhan Majra and reviewed the upkeep measures taken by the Administration following his previous visit. He sought regular veterinary care, adequate fodder supply, cleanliness, and humane management of cattle shelters.
After completing the inspections, the Governor and Administrator held a review meeting with the Commissioner, MC Chandigarh, Sh. Amit Kumar and Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadhav. He instructed them to ensure city-wide cleanliness, improved primary healthcare outreach, better waste management, and responsive civic services, with special focus on areas inhabited by the urban poor.
Reiterating his commitment to making Chandigarh a clean, healthy, and citizen-friendly city, Shri Kataria stressed that regular field inspections, accountability of officers, and community participation are essential for achieving sustainable urban governance.
