Ghanaur, August 24: Youth Akali Dal national president and Ghanaur halqa incharge Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer, along with Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) member Jasmer Singh Lachhru, held key meetings with local residents in Ghanaur city on Monday, intensifying preparations for the upcoming Punjab Bachao Rally scheduled for August 30 at Ghanaur Dana Mandi.
Addressing the gathering, Jhinjer said the rally, which will be addressed by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal along with senior party leaders, would prove historic in Punjab's political history. He said only the Shiromani Akali Dal has the capability to bring Punjab back on the path of development, alleging that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has pushed the state into neglect, leaving people struggling for basic amenities.
Interacting with locals, Jhinjer targeted the AAP government over what he called its massive failures, citing its inability to check the drug trade in Punjab, which he said continues to claim the lives of youth every day. He also referred to statewide protests by government employees and outsourced workers demanding their legitimate rights, alleging that these protests were met with police baton charges, tear gas, and water cannons.
Reacting to recent remarks by Haryana Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda, who reportedly described Sajjan Kumar as a "role model," Jhinjer said Sajjan Kumar was a convicted perpetrator responsible for the mass murder of thousands of innocent Sikhs during the 1984 genocide. He said that Congress leaders mourning his death and calling him a role model exposed the party's deep-seated hypocrisy. Instead of taking full accountability for the anti-Sikh violence of 1984, Jhinjer alleged, Congress leaders were glorifying a convicted killer.
Jhinjer directly questioned Punjab Congress leaders Charanjit Singh Channi and party president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, asking whether they stood with the victims or the perpetrators. He said merely wearing a turban does not make one a true Sikh, and that if Congress leaders genuinely cared about Sikh dignity, they should show accountability and step aside immediately. He termed the glorification of Sajjan Kumar a disgrace and said the entire Congress party should be ashamed of it.
Jhinjer said the city meetings witnessed massive support from the public for the August 30 rally, adding that people across Ghanaur were enthusiastically preparing to participate in large numbers.
Among those present during the meetings were Jasbir Singh Jassi, Sarpanch Kuldeep Singh, Balkar Singh, Preetam Singh Fauji, Gurjant Singh Mehdooda, Mauju Khan, Parvinder Singh Bhangu, and Dr. Amar Singh.
