'Many aspects of the investigation were ignored', CBI to approach High Court in Delhi liquor scam case

Digital Desk, New Delhi. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken a major step and will appeal the lower court's decision in the Delhi liquor scam case to the Delhi High Court. The agency believes that the judgment did not adequately address the substantial evidence presented in the case and aspects of the investigation, which is why it has now sought the higher court's intervention.

The CBI has decided to immediately appeal the trial court's decision in the High Court, arguing that several aspects of the case investigation have either been overlooked or not properly considered.

A special court on Delhi's Rouse Avenue acquitted all 23 accused, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, in a CBI case related to the excise policy. Special Judge (PC Act) Jitendra Singh said the prosecution's case failed to stand judicial scrutiny and no prima facie case was made out against anyone.

What did the court say?

In its verdict, the court stated that the CBI attempted to fabricate a conspiracy narrative. "In a criminal trial, conjecture or speculation is not sufficient; authentic and credible evidence is essential," the court said.

CBI Claims: The CBI claims that the new excise policy constitutes a major criminal conspiracy to benefit a select few, and bribes were taken in exchange for these benefits
