Putin Arrives in Delhi for Crucial Summit; Defence Deals and Trade Dominates Agenda
NEW DELHI—Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi this afternoon for a significant two-day visit, marking the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is President Putin’s first visit to India in four years.
The talks are expected to focus heavily on bolstering defence ties and developing mechanisms to insulate bilateral trade from mounting external geopolitical pressures. Officials confirmed that discussions will also explore cooperation in next-generation technologies, including small modular reactors for energy. The visit underscores the 25th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership between the two nations. European envoys have reportedly urged New Delhi to use the meeting to press Putin on ending the conflict in Ukraine.
